Our 2013-2014 Curriculum Choices

2013 curriculum

This year we will have a 4th and a 5th grader as well as a toddler.

We are keeping the kiddos together this year for most of their studies-

makes it so much easier for the teacher!!  😉

Here’s our list:

  • Math

~4th- Teaching Textbooks- 3 (almost finished) then 4

~5th- Math Mammoth/Geometry– then Teaching Textbooks- 6

  • SpellingSpell by Color– so excited about this great Free spelling curriculum
  • Literature– The kiddos will have separate books they are reading with discussion questions:

~4th- Black Beauty

~5th- The Call of the Wild

  • GeographyRoad Trip USA– looks like a fun and easy resource
  • Phys ED.- These great PE Activity Cards (kids choose 4 per day)- These are from Confessions of a Homeschooler, but I’m having a hard time finding the link.  Will update when I do.
  • Independent Projects– Each kiddo will be choosing a topic to study and will be presenting a project in any manner they choose (report, lapbook, presentation, etc.) at our Learning Expo’s once a month.

And that wraps it up for now.  We are starting slowly and will be adding some additional items as we go. (I’ll add them here as we do.)

I will be detailing many of these resources in upcoming posts- so stay tuned if you are interested.

Are you ready for the new school year?

What resources will your little learners be using?

    • I love all the free curriculum we’ve found. There are such great resources out there for those of us on a budget. I hopped over and checked out your list (and linked up as well)- it sounds like you all are in for a great year. 🙂

  • Gosh, my curriculum seems so boring compared to everyone else’s. Although I’m doing Abeka 4th and 7th grade full curriculum and using Teaching Textbooks 5 as a math supplement for my 4th grader and Teaching Textbooks Pre-Algebra for my 7th grader. They both come from a public/private school background as of last year so sneaking in an extra 30 min of a TT lesson doesn’t cause them to complain since they are used to 8 hr school days + 3 hrs of mom reteaching them what they should’ve learned at school. We are pretty much married to Abeka since it’s easy for my DH and I who both work outside of the home to interchangeably teach. But gosh I’d love to try some of these other gems out with them.

    • I’ve heard great things about Abeka and I know many families who have had great success with their kiddos using only Abeka from K- 12. I feel sure if I worked outside the home I would have to choose a much more contained curriculum as well. I think you are amazing to be able to handle both working and homeschooling. Hope you have a great year. 🙂

  • We are big on freebies! We use a lot of free stuff on the internet and also do some Unit Studies for our homeschooling.
My favorite one that I have found recently was our new Spelling Program
    ( http://www.spellingcity.com/ )
My children will be in 1st and 5th grade this year. My youngest is just now learning to read. I am hoping it will make that process go a lot smoother this year.
I will also check out the one you are using too. Never hurts to have more than one resource to use 😉

    • I love finding new freebies for homeschooling. There are some really great resources out there if you are willing to search a little bit. We’ve used Spelling City in the past and we love it too!! Blessings on a great homeschool year for you and your little ones. 🙂

  • Loving the list you have. Curious as to how it’s all worked out and also I’m haveing a tough time with the grammer, in finding where the answers are. Could you direct me? Thank you, I’m trying to get ready for my upcoming 5th grader!

  • Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just your articles?
I mean, what you say is important and all. But just imagine
if you added some great images or video clips to
give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images
and videos, this website could definitely be one of the best in its field.

    Terrific blog!

  • Undeniably believe that which you stated. Your favorite justification seemed to be on the internet
the simplest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainmly get annoyed while people thinbk about worries that thhey plainly don’t know about.
You managed to hit the nail upon the top as well as defined out the whole thing without having side effect , people can take a signal.
Will likely be back to gett more. Thanks

  • Before and also After Photos – Examine the dental professional’s treatment
outcomes on various other people to make sure his/her work suits your oral requirements.
There are just a few cosmetic dental experts in the Chicago area that satisfy these standards.
So, relying on the kind of implant being made use of, the cost should differ.
