So for me… next to mathematics, history and geography are two of the scariest things to teach as a homeschooling parent. I am terrible at memorizing facts and dates and my typical public school education did not foster a love of history or geography, but instead made me dread the topics altogether.
When we first started homeschooling years ago my kiddos were little and I figured we had years until I would have to face my fear of history. Fast forward a few years and now we are in the throes of the history learning years and yet I still struggle to incorporate it into our curriculum.
Our current history learning comes mostly from reading biographies from heroes of our past. Not a complete history learning experience for sure.
You can imagine my joy at learning that we would be given the opportunity to do a review for Knowledge Quest as part of the Schoolhouse Review Crew. I have heard great things about Knowledge Quest and I was actually really excited to see if this could be a way to enhance our history curriculum.
For this review, we were given the entire Map Trek 6 Volume Set of ebooks which includes 4 World History ebooks- Ancient World, Medieval World, New World, Modern World, and US History ebooks 1 & 2.
These are not just books of maps- there is so much more to this set!!
Each volume contains:
- Full color teacher answer maps
- Blank outline maps for the student
- Grid maps
- Blank grids
- Instructions on how to use the maps
- Lesson plans
- Glossary of terms
The lesson plans are broken down by level allowing them to be used for multiple years.
Lesson plan levels are:
- Level 1- Grades 1-4
- Level 2- Grades 5-8
- Level 3- Grades 9-12
This is a multi-use product that will last you throughout your child’s education!!
One of my worries is that I will pass my fear (distaste) of history and geography on to my children. Try as I might, they have begun to dread our history lessons as much as I have and it has become a big concern of mine. When I first downloaded the Map Trek ebooks, I didn’t even know where to start. I was not sure how I would incorporate a bunch of maps into our lessons.
So I started in the lesson plans- from the first glance I was amazed at how well though out and comprehensive this program was. This is NOT just a book of maps but can be used as a stand alone geography curriculum or as a wonderful addition to any history program.
This is our first experience with Knowledge Quest and I must say I am amazed at the quality of their products. The maps are beautiful and so easy to read. They have all the necessary information but they are not crowded with unneeded material. My children were actually excited to begin understanding a bit more about where our place is in the world and discovering where some of our favorite heroes lived was so much fun!!
I was really happy to see how their worldview expanded and how it allowed them to see that although we live in a very big world, we are all connected in different ways. It has been so much fun for me to see history come alive in a new and different way. And best of all- we are all excited to learn more- history is no longer a dreaded topic in our home.
Oh- and best of all- Knowledge Quest offers FREE Curriculum Integration Guides to go alone with the program!!
The Knowledge Quest Map Trek program-

US History Ebooks set- $19.95

- I love that this program can be used as a standalone curriculum or as a great addition to any history curriculum.
- I don’t think you can beat the pricing on these when you take into consideration that you will be able to use them from elementary through high school.
- The maps are so easy to access and print and are extremely well organized.
- Okay- I seriously thought about this for a while because I like to offer balanced reviews of the products I am given, but I just can’t come up with a con for this program. Even with my fear of history and geography, this is just a wonderful addition to our curriculum and I see us using it for years to come!!
I am so happy that we were given this review opportunity with Knowledge Quest. I know that my children will have a more well-rounded history education with thanks to Map Trek and my new found interest in the subject. I am actually looking forward to revisiting topics I have steered clear from for years and to more fully understanding where important events in our history took place.
I also believe that it is important to know where we are in the world in regards to our culture and experiences and I so look forward to watching my children discover the wonders this would has to offer. I would recommend this program to every homeschooling family and any typical schooled family that loves history or wants to expand their child’s worldview. You will not be disappointed!!
